KidsClassics

Instrumental, Opera and Composition Performances and Workshops for Young People KidsClassics introduces young people to a variety of musical styles, instruments, performers and concepts through lively interactive concerts and workshops that engage and involve them as active listeners. Program guides containing educational materials, games and puzzles can be included. Some of the programs available are:

All in the Musical Family
Four members of a musical “family” (strings, woodwinds, brass, or voices) introduce themselves and related music concepts in short, diverse pieces punctuated with humor and audience involvement.

This is Opera?!
DVO singers and director Jim Blanton introduce young people to the surprising world of Opera through scenes and highlights laced with humor, audience participation and some very current themes.

Meet the Chamber Orchestra
Experience the workings of a chamber orchestra and learn about instruments through music from classic to pop. The audience gets to sing along and student conductors get to conduct!

Do-It-Yourself Music (also know as “Composition”)
Composer Carolyn Steinberg brings her expertise as composer and teacher to multiple sessions exploring the joy and techniques of composition to youth of all ages. The sessions can culminate in a performance of student compositions. Student works can also be considered for public performance at the DVCO annual “Music of Our Time” concert.

Senior Classics

“Because You're Never Too Old to Learn Something New”
For seniors with a spirit of adventure, Senior Classics introduces instrumentalists, Broadway music and Opera to senior citizens groups and organizations. Special Sing-along programs are also available.
